The color of your skin depends on the concentration of a pigment known as melanin. Internal factors, such as hormonal imbalance, and external factors, such as overexposure to sunlight, trigger excessive melanin production. As a result, some parts of your skin becomes darker than the rest. Doctors call this condition hyper pigmentation. For mild cases, you can use one of the following DIY hyper pigmentation removal treatments.
The easiest way to treat hyper pigmentation at home is with lemon juice. The citric acid in the lemon juice bleaches your skin, making it lighter. To administer this treatment, squeeze the juice from one lemon into a bowl. Next, dip a cotton ball into the juice. After you soak the cotton ball with lemon juice, dab the affected parts of your skin. Let the lemon juice remain on your skin for 20 to 30 minutes. Then, wash it with lukewarm water. Repeat the treatment every night. Also, apply a sunscreen with SPF greater than 30 when you go outdoors. Another easy-to-apply treatment uses potatoes. Potatoes contain enzymes that can lighten your skin tone. Here are the steps you need to follow. First, cut a fresh potato in thick circular slices. Put a few drops of water on the slices to make it moist. After that, rub the slice on the affected part of your skin. After rubbing it on your skin for about 10 minutes, wash your face with lukewarm water. Repeat the treatment for two to three times every day for a month. Remember to test the treatment on a small part of your skin before full-scale application. If you don't notice any decrease in hyper pigmentation within 6 to 12 weeks, you should consult a skin specialist. A dermatologist can study your skin condition currently and recommend appropriate hyper pigmentation removal methods, such as microdermabrasion or laser resurfacing.
